The Music Box

In a time when youth is glorified and “young is beautiful”, getting old has become increasingly difficult.

Photographing elderly women I try to explore dreams and visions, recollections and memories, real and imagined. We revisit the past using clothes, mirrors, music, accounts. Their objects, which might still hold connection with the past, are also portrayed. A music box, a dress, a photograph or anything that might still carry meaning. We see transformations or sometimes just silence. Together we create images and for moments they “are” who they have wanted to be or they “believe” they have been.

Mixing fantasy and reality my encounters with these women also attempt to show what is not immediately visible, what is beneath the skin of reality; beauty where no longer expected!
