The Wedding Dress
Marion Rees – 15th January 1972
Our wedding was not a big deal. We had been living together for 3½ years before that which was something at the time. We only got married because we were going together to South America and we thought it might not be acceptable to be unmarried. Gordon had won a Rotary scholarship to go to Peru for a year. We would possibly get married eventually anyway, later when we had children. I bought my dress at Liberty in London and he wore a green denim suit The wedding was in a registry office in St Pancras and we then got a taxi to Trafalgar Square for photos. Later to a meal in a Chinese restaurant in Kings Road. Not many people attended the registry wedding. My parents, Gordon’s parents my sister and her kids. My mum and dad arrived in London in the morning of the wedding and we were still in bed. Had to get in changed quickly. In the evening lots of friends came to our house in Camden for a party. Is hard to remember details as it has been more than 3 decades. But we looked smooth in our 70’s outfits.
