The Wedding Dress

Elaine Suleiman – 9th November 1981

I was exhausted on the day of my wedding. Behind the smiles I gave to family and friends (in its majority my father’s friends who was a powerful business man) a huge emptiness was taking over my body and mind. At 21 (after knowing my husband to be for just 1 year) I had to take care of all the details of the wedding. More than get married I think I wanted to get out of my parents house. My mother did not help much with the organization as she was ill but made sure she looked perfect on the actual day. My dress was made by a famous designer at the time and together with my wonderful daughter is the one thing that lasted of my farewell marriage. We separated after 3 years.
